Stupid Acrobat

Post by josephbt »

I've just found out, after an hour of poking round, that the newest AAcrobat can't open multiple files in the same window. It instead clutters them in the taskbar.

I asked on the adobe boards why this was so. I got an answer that it's a feature that was deemed unneeded.

So now my taskbar looks retarded with 5 pdfs opened and some other programs. Great. Why have it all in one place when you can throw it all arround?

isn't there a collapse feature for similar tasks or whatever in windoze? right-click on one of them and see. I haven't used windows in a couple of months. At least to the level where it would require me remembering if what i say is true.

Try using alt+tab. Not a perfect solution, but it might work for you.

ctrl+tab was a shortcut in cs3 AA that cycled through files opened in acrobats window. it was a fast way of getting through files without having to minimize or other such crap. alttab just lets me cycle through the last 2 used files. and still everything clutters my taskbar.

tried foxit. didn't like it. it just was...right.

goddamit. okay

Older versions of Acrobat, cs3 and older, could ctrl+tab through files you opened. All of the files were open in the same Acrobat window, so you could cycle rather fast and eficient through the files. Ofcourse you could check the option to have one window open for every file. But it sucks. If you open 5 or more files, they bunch up in the task bar and make a mess. If more are open then you can't see what each file is. So, this is a nice adition to clear your work space. In CS4 it was removed b/c it was "unneeded". It was already announced that it will be reinstated.
It has nothing to do with any of Win editions.

I blame the people who use mouse for every little goddamn thing. What fvcking mouse? My DOS didn't need it, Norton commander didn't need it, sudenly Win appears, andnobody knows how to do anything w/o a mouse. wtf? Bloody gui, if at least it worked normaly.

No, I understand what you're saying. But alt-tab shouuldn't be an acrobat exclusive command.

alt-tab is a windows command that cycles through all the open files currently not just the last two.

in fact, if you are in XP or below you can get the windows power tools to let you get a preview window as you alt-tab through.

I only asked about Vista because I am not at all familiar with that system. I don't think I've ever sat on a computer with Vista for any meaningful amount of time and even had a chance to use it.

Ctrl+tab. Not Alt+tab. And it's not exclusive to adobe, there are many programs that let you cycle through windows open within them with ctr+tab. cs4 acrobat now isn't one of them.

And which os are you using? I just tried alttabing and i cant tab through all windows, just last 2. I can press alttab several times, but with no clue where i will end up, unless one of those power tools you mentioned is installed.

In my WinXP SP2, I see icons and titles of everything when I use Alt+Tab any number of times ...

You have to hold the Alt key down while you're doing it. As long as you don't let go of the Alt key you can see exactly what's next in line and what the next hit of the tab key will give you.

You can do a similar thing in Vista with Win+Tab, and that will give you a preview of the window instead of just the icon.
